2024 has been a rollercoaster, to say the least. But you know what? I’m deeply grateful for all of it; the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Why? Because every moment, good or bad, has shaped me and taught me something new about myself—what I love, what I don’t, and what truly matters to me.
In this post, I just want to share some of the lessons I’ve learned. They’re personal, and hey, they might even be a bit controversial. But this is my truth, and maybe it’ll inspire you to reflect on your own journey too. So buckle up—here we go!
1. Not everyone will understand you—and that’s okay.
Here’s the thing: life is all about growth. I’m not the same person I was a year ago, and honestly, I hope I’m not the same person next year either. Growth means letting go of certain habits, beliefs, and sometimes even people.
For example, I’ve learned to be more disciplined with my finances. I used to struggle with saving, but I realized that to reach my goals, I needed to make sacrifices. That meant fewer dinners out, fewer spontaneous date nights, and saying no more often. It’s not that I don’t value those moments—they’re important—but I’ve learned to prioritize.
Of course, not everyone gets it. Some friends might feel distant, and that’s okay. It doesn’t mean I love them any less; it just means my focus has shifted. Growth often comes with growing pains, but it’s worth it.
“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.”
1 Corinthians 13:11
2. Closing one chapter to start another isn’t weakness—it’s courage.
This year, I made a tough decision: I left my job. For a long time, I convinced myself to stick it out, telling myself that perseverance was the noble thing to do. But the truth? It was draining me.
Switching jobs wasn’t easy, but it was necessary for my peace of mind. I realized that choosing your well-being over loyalty to something or someone isn’t selfish—it’s strength. Life is too short to stay in situations that make you miserable. If you’re stuck, this is your sign: don’t be afraid to walk away.
3. Deep connections are priceless—treasure them.
This year reminded me how important it is to cherish the people who truly get you. I’m talking about the friends who encourage you to grow, who listen without judgment, and who genuinely want the best for you.
These are the friendships I want to invest in—the ones rooted in love, not jealousy; encouragement, not competition. Some of my closest friends aren’t even family, but they feel like it. This really reminds me of the Bible scripture below:
“One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
Proverbs 18:24
Life is fragile, and tomorrow isn’t promised. So spend time with the people who matter, make beautiful memories, and celebrate them while you can. Don’t wait for “the right moment”—the right moment is now.
4. Walking with God takes intention.
Being a practicing Christian isn’t always easy, but it’s the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. God has really showed me over and over again that faithfulness rewards. This year, I realized just how much intentionality it takes to stay connected to God—especially when life gets busy.
I’ve learned that prayer isn’t about waiting until you feel like it. It’s about making time, even when you don’t want to. It’s also about surrounding yourself with people who strengthen your faith and avoiding places that pull you away from it. This life is more spiritual than physical, and being intentional with my walk with God has made all the difference.
5. Nothing worthwhile comes easy.
If there’s one thing 2024 has taught me, it’s this: anything worth having takes effort. Whether it’s building a career, maintaining a relationship, or achieving a personal goal, you have to work for it.
For me, that’s meant staying consistent, disciplined, and focused—even when distractions come my way (and trust me, they always do!). Growth isn’t glamorous, but it’s always worth it.
There’s so much more I’ve learned, but these are the big ones that stood out to me this year. If any of this resonated with you, I’d love to hear about your own journey—what lessons has 2024 taught you? Let’s keep growing together.
Here’s to more growth, gratitude, and grace in the year ahead!
Heavy on the “not everyone will understand you” and that’s okay! Life is not about pleasing people but to please God!
My goal for this year is to cherish every single moment with my loved ones because tomorrow isn’t promised and but Christ at the every centre.
